lady luck
look at this most gorgeous trio!!! I couldn't resist this, I bought it off ebay. I have never seen anything like it and felt it was a necessity??!! It is dated from the 1930's, hand painted and called Lady Luck. I just love it! I love the way The Joker is not only on the inside but also on the back of the cup too!! It's special alright!!!! How would we cope without ebay? I guess I would stop spending money I don't have to spend!!

special art
I received the most BEAUTIFUL piece of artwork recently from my Blogger friend Esther over at The Ruth Spoon! It is this gorgeous little book! It is just so amazing and the writing in it is Esther's own writing. I was blown away by this. I had urged Esther to put her work on her blog and she sent me this instead, but Esther PLEEEAAASE put your work on your blog to share, it is just awesome! and thank you too for such a lovely pressie!!!

Summer certainly hit with a vengeance last week and I had no summer pants really. Last summer I got rid of some thread bare ones thinking I had plenty of time to make new ones and of course I hadn't done it. I quickly made this black pair of 3/4s and have some fabric to make a few more pairs pretty quickly too. The pattern is Vogue 8885. I have had it for 15 years so I don't know if it is still available. It is very easy and has a drawstring as well as elastic but I have never bothered with the drawstring. I used to make a lot of shorts with this pattern, it is a wide leg and you just cut it to what ever length you want. But now, in the best interests of the public I don't wear shorts anymore I am quite happy to just have 3/4 length!!!!

worth their weight in gold
I wanted to share our Golden Books with you. I have seen quite a few pop up around blogs so I thought I would include ours. My daughter has been collecting them for about 3 years now and while most of them are gorgeous there are some titles out now that just ruined the whole Golden Book image for me ie Pokemon!! Now I love Pokemon - but in a Golden Book????
I have been collecting too for quite sometime. I love the illustrations. I first started just getting tatty ones thinking I would use them in my art pieces, but now I have some in perfect condition. Isobel gets first choice if we are together, and sometimes if she is with hubby alone she will still chose some for me as she knows the ones I like, which is sweet. When I am op shopping I will try to get some for both of us depending on what's there.
I took these photos actually a couple of weeks ago and since then we have added about 15 or so to the collection. 3 for me (photo of 3) and the rest for Bel. Here is Bel's collection she has around 100 now.
my 3 from last week
and most of my others, these are my favourites. It's a crazy thing though, it's like the fabric and linen I buy at the op shop to recycle - I just can't cut into them. I know I will, especially the ones that have covers ripped off and scribbled in. At least they will be recycled with love, I just don't know when that will be. A few of mine were first illustrated as early as the 40's, I love that!!

fabric and things
gosh I haven't posted in 10 days!! I haven't been too brilliant myself and am also trying to look after mum. The hospital seem to have forgotten they are sending her to Melbourne for a scan that can't be done in Tassie, so that is causing us grief. On a happier note here is a beautiful Barkcloth tablecloth mum gave me years ago from her cupboard. Given to her in 1958 as a Kitchen Tea present, I have loved this since I was a kid and before I knew the beauty of Barkcloth. Mum had others which have either disappeared along the way or just worn out.
here are some op shop finds for the week. Two eclectic trios I put together, each separate piece was only $2

and some fabric shopping. Yes from Spotlight but it is authentic Japanese and gorgeous. (I know a lot of you have been buying it too, it's great isn't that you can have it cut for you and not just wait for it in the post - even though of course I love that too) This is the second time in a short time I have bought more than I should of in Spotlight then a few days later they have a 20% off everything sale!!!! Do they wait until I have been????

why do you create?
I was tagged by Jhoanna over at One Red Robin for a meme which I think is a great idea. It really made me reflect and think about things thanks Jhoanna!
The meme is Why Do I Create?
when did you start to create and make craft?
I just have been creating for as long as I can remember but there have periods of my life where I wasn't doing a great deal crafting. As far as sewing went I used to make my own clothes and I only made easy patterns, you know those ones that you can make a dress in a couple of hours! but I always loved doing it.
why did u start creating?
I think this is something in all of us that we need to do whether we realise it or not. So it's hard to say why did I start? I think I just always have!!
why do you create?
After having my girls it really gave me the opportunity for the first time to study art full time and I majored in Ceramics and just couldn't get enough of making pots. I still dabbled in sewing as well. Then I had to give up Ceramics and was feeling at a loss as I wasn't creating anything. After discovering all the wonderful blogs out there I felt so inspired to start sewing again, but I wanted to create things a little more fun than making clothes! Creating makes me feel whole, I get quite out of sorts when I can't make anything for a time eg school holidays it is hard to do a lot. For quite a few years when I had to work in offices and I wasn't really creating anything (except doing those easy patterns sometimes so I had work clothes), i felt like I would die. I hated it.
what do u create?
I mainly make softies and bags. I love both of those. I knit some things too but very basic things and I am always trying to crochet!
has this changed since you began?
yes it has changed. The first few softies I tried were really quite fiddly and that is just not for me so I try to stick to simple ones now. I need to see quick results. I am also using a lot more recycled fabrics. The hunt for those in the op shops is half the fun of course and it feels great to add to my stash but knowing I am recycling something too. Also I am often sketching designs of my own for softies and bags but haven't made any yet.
This was a lot of fun Jhoanna. Thanks for tagging me. Some of these questions were harder to answer than I thought like why do I create? I Know I NEED to create, but it is hard to put into words.
I get to tag 5 people so I will tag Abby, Blackie, Donna, Carolyn and Jodie to do this meme, only if you want to of course girls, and if you haven't already done it. It would be great to read your answers. Please anyone else who wants to join in do so. It is good to think about why we do what we do!

tea and interviews!
I am feeling quite honoured at the moment as the lovely Samantha over at Whizzme has interviewed me! yes ME. Samantha wants to do the occasional interview with bloggers that aren't celebrities in the blogging world which is a lovely idea. So pop on over and have a read if you like and say hi to Sam. Thank you Sam, it was fun :) I have a tag to do which I have in my head I just haven't got it down yet so that is on my "must do" list for tomorrow!!!
