my little hoot

my Owl stitchery is finished and I am quite happy with it. I have done it for Bel as she is Owl crazy. She has already chosen a few more owls to be stitched and wants to do one herself which is wonderful. The basic outline of the owl I found as a freebie on the net (not sure where now sorry!). Then I enjoyed filling him in freehand and doing the tree freehand. I had the tree in mind and was going to do it in a very neat satin stitch (as neat as I can be anyway) then I bought this gorgeous book and felt so inspired by it to do the tree in an "uneven satin stitch" as in the book. I am happy with the result but still need to loosen up a bit with it. It's not quite as "uneven" as in the book, but it was inspiring nonetheless. I will share with you some photos from the book. Wish I could put all of them in!!

I am not sure how to finish the owl off. Bel wants him on her wall. The options are framing, but it is quite thick, putting back in the bamboo hoop or adding a fabric border and hanging that way. Any suggestions are most welcome.

and finally a quick project I made a few weeks ago. I just wanted a simple tunic style thick top to see the end of winter out. Couldn't find any and thought I really should make one as they are so easy. So I bought a poly/cotton fleece and made this and recycled a shirt to add the collar and sleeve trim. It will be fine for the rest of the chilly weather, but needs tweaking a little. So I have saved a few shirts to cut up and will make a few next Autumn. They are great for around home but with the collar and sleeve trim I feel it is also fine to pop out to the supermarket, school or op shop, or fabric shop of course! I am all for comfort but not looking sloppy!!

Your owl in a tree is so cute!!! I think you are so clever!!! I like to arrange my embroidery threads like the picture, it looks like a lovely book.
How clever you are to sew a top, it does look great: smart, yet casual!!!
Hope you are having a nice day today. My washing has dried on the line and we have played outside too!!

Lovely owl!

My 1975 copy of "the complete book of knitting, crochet and embroidery" is staring at me, daring me to try embroidery. But I'm still in the middle of trying crochet.

That is just the sweetest!
I think it would look fabulous hanging on the wall in an embroidery hoop.

Your owl is gorgeous...the whole stitchery is gorgeous, you've done a wonderful embroidery job! I was going to suggest hanging him in an embroidery hoop too or turn him into a little wall quilt and hang him from a rustic hanger with teeny pegs. Love your book too verrry inspiring :)

Hi Linda,
Thanks for popping by my blog. I feel we are very similar souls. Many of your favourites are my favourites too!
Congrats on the great blog and cute owl embroidery. I think I would try and hunt down an old style frame and house him in that. Maybe an old timber one so he feels at home.
Warmly Lenna

Aww, he is so cute Linda!! Good work! I'm with Lenna, put him in a frame made with some rustic wood. You could even sew a fabric "matte" around him before you put him in a frame, like a nice barn red color and then that next to the rustic wood frame would be fabulous!!
