friday already

I really want to do a quick post to say hi to everyone. I am unwell at the moment and after a couple of days I really miss my blog and other bloggers!! The blogging community is what keeps me sane and I want to thank you all for it. The invention of the internet is such a wonderful thing isn't it. Of course there are losers who abuse it, but generally it is a wonderful place. I often think when my first daughter was born (she is 15 now) and we moved to another city and I felt so isolated, if the internet was there it would of made life so much more tolerable. To feel connected to other like minded people and somewhere to share any artwork and crafty bits.
Mum has been on Ebay again!!! She promises me this is the end of it. I have FIVE trios she bought me over the Christmas New Year period of which I have 2 to share today and will post the others soon. I know mum gets great pleasure out of buying these for me. That's what makes them so special. She doesn't really have anything she wants to buy herself from Ebay so she has chosen to buy these treasures for me!! Thank you Mutti!! I must add though, mum is now going to Ebayers Anonymous!!!!!! (I am sure a lot of us could go too!)
Here is a snippet of a wonderful book I picked up recently on an oppy trip. I do love this style of illustration and I would like to share every page but Blogger would spit the dummy I think!!! Don't you love those moments in the op shop when you find a real treasure and your heart starts racing? This was one of those moments for me! Easily pleased I know. I think I have mentioned before, Hubby is sooo pleased my need for retail therapy is satisfied just for a couple of dollars!!
and look at this little guy. We have these visitors most nights in the front yard as the bush is right on our back fence. It is lovely to see them, but can be sad as they often get hit by cars by coming out of the bush but there is no stopping them in their search for food and water.
happy weekend everyone :) xx

Sorry Day

Another bag finished. I am pleased with this one. I made it for my sister and it has taken ages, way too long but after cutting it out and starting it I left it for nearly 2 months! The brief was for a "shabby" bag. If I was making it for myself I would of used recycled clothing and vintage fabrics to get the shabby look I like. My sister however, has different taste. She doesn't do op shops or really buy anything secondhand I don't think, so I needed to use new fabrics. But I did manage to put on a vintage button though which is from our nan's collection I have.
My last post I said I was rushing off to the op shop. Now I only buy things I can use (or try to most times!!!!) and I scored a lovely Pyrex mixing bowl. I was so very happy, as the only Pyrex I usually find is in terrible nick! Also a couple more Golden Books that just could not be left on the shelf.

If you are in Australia, what did you think of the Apology Speech???? I thought it was wonderful. I never feel patriotic really and I didn't think I would even listen to the speech but I did and I was very impressed. I felt quite teary and proud too. A reaction that shocked me very much. I thought Kevin did a great job and I thought Brendan Nelson should not of even bothered to get out of bed! His speech started off not too bad, then went down hill VERY fast. What are your thoughts on the whole thing???? I always find Australia Day a farse that we celebrate the invasion of this country and the slaughter of the first peoples. Especially when in Tasmania (being the island state that we are) they wiped out the whole population of Aboriginal people. So Australia Day is not a day I feel terribly proud. Sorry Day might be. I think this is a step in the right direction, even though of course, it doesn't solve the problems of health and education and all the other issues, but it does offer closure to some of those children who were stolen from their families and for the families left behind.

Buddleia heaven!!

here is a snap of some of our Buddleia! I love it so much. The colour of the flower is so intense but only stays that way for a very short time. I also love the way the flower head is made up of tiny flowers, just gorgeous.

Look at these wonderful patterns I picked up. One is dated 1962 and one 1963. I don't know if the original owner dated her patterns as she bought them, or later someone added the date after looking it up, but it is great to have an actual date written on them.
and some gorgeously cute Japanese fabric I bought before Christmas from Jodie at Jelly Wares! Thank you Jodie I love it so much, just tooooo cute and toooo cute to cut into of course!! Ridiculous I know but I find it so hard to do. I always think I'll buy something I like less so I can cut that up!! Where is the logic in that??? There isn't any I know, AND I never buy anything I like less!!

I am gradually getting some sewing done. Here is a bag I made as a gift and below is a closeup of inside. The outer is furnishing fabric which I love to use for bags, it is so sturdy.

I have nearly finished another bag too so will post that soon. I must dash and get in some retail therapy at the op shop!! take care all
