owl family - freebie

I have done this pattern up as a freebie for you, for personal use. I decided to trace the finished stitchery (as I had just drawn straight onto the calico I didn't have anything on paper) so please click on the photo below and it will take you to Flickr, then go to "all sizes" above the photo and you can print from there.
I would love to know if you stitch it so I can have a look at your version of it!

enjoy

xx

my creative space

a mixture of things in my space these last few days.....

sorting out threads and looking through patterns to start another stitchery......

working out how to make my Owl stitchery a freebie. I have actually done this and will post it soon..........

and making Cindy's lovely Apple Cake. Mine had to stay in the dish as using gluten free flour made it a little bit crumbly, but with lots of cream it tasted just fine.....very fine in fact

Alice

This is a finished Alice mixed media piece I did for a swap with Marian. The swap worked out wonderfully. Marian was the best swapper as we arranged it way before xmas and we kept putting it back and back for lots of reasons and finally we swapped last week.
I received some gorgeousness from Marian but haven't taken good photos yet so I will have those later in the week. thank you Marian it's been such fun

My daughter Zoe has been MySpacing it for a couple of years now, but she has just started a blog. She wants to blog about things she loves like cupcakes, all things Japanese, movies, fashion, makeup and all things cute. Please drop by and say hi. She has just started out and hasn't made contacts yet so I thought it would be such a lovely thing for her, and a surprise, if she had sweet bloggers like you guys welcoming her to the blogosphere!! xx
sorry I had the link wrong! it's all fixed now to Zoe's blog

daffodil

First Daffodil for the year. I took this photo a few days ago and now there are 3 others out.
The month of May this year was so warm and mild I thought Winter would never come. Now the garden is telling me Spring is almost upon us.
I am loving the cool, crisp days and even though the beginning of Spring is lovely, I am not looking forward to Summer. It does however, seem to be arriving very fast.
Growing up I always could tell there were 4 definite seasons here in Tassie. Now the lines are blurring more each year. It does scare me to wonder about what the future holds for our children and beyond in terms of temperature and the planet. I hope we are not to late to save it.

talking totes

I decided at the beginning of the year I wasn't going to buy anymore new fabric for the whole year. I was going to use up my stash, most of which is vintage fabric from the op shop. It comes in the form of off the bolt, curtains, sheets, pillowcases and clothes etc. I also have quite a few curtains that were nan's or mum's to be cut up and used. I am no longer going to be precious about these fabrics and use them. I am still buying op shop fabric if I find it.
Well it has taken me some months but I have actually started cutting into them in the search for the perfect tote.
I love the idea of a simple tote, but one that is strong and very well made and has the right proportions. Here is the first one. It has short carry handles but I think I prefer them longer to go over the shoulder if needed. It is quite a good size (but still could be tweaked) and is reversible. I have used a barkcloth curtain and jumbo cord both from the Salvos. The jumbo cord works so well as it really adds strength.
A tote bag is the ideal bag for me as I seem to carry so much including an on the go craft project which a lot of us do. I have tried many big bags over the years but I find the actual bags are so heavy.
I am on a roll and a mission to do more of these and it feels so good to be using this fabric
Maybe I will even have enough one day to open that Etsy or MadeIt shop I dreamed about 3 years ago when I started this blog!!ooops
I don't have visions of making lots of money. I think it's more about having a reason to be making bags and hoping that people would want to use them. Putting such beautiful fabrics to use......washing them, twice sometimes, then ironing them and putting them away just waiting to reinvent them. Anyway I'll think about a shop later on.....leave it for another day.. I am after all, an expert procrastinator

my creative space - knitting & drawing

my space this week has some girls and fairies waiting to be made into finished artworks.......
and knitting........I am sooo happy to be actually knitting from a pattern. yippeeee It is a simple beginner's pattern but will still take me quite some time as I am only doing a couple of rows a day. I won't tell you what it is yet in case it doesn't work out.

I am using the beautiful hand dyed wool from Kate.

stitching

Finally finished. If I can ever work out how, I would like to put this up as a free pattern.
I haven't looked into yet, but maybe putting it on Flickr to be printed is the best way? If anyone has simple directions they wouldn't mind sharing I would love to know xx

little girls with big whiskers

these are our other two baby girls. These two belong to Zoe. They are, in front - Neko (Japanese for Cat!) and Edie (pronounced E-dee) named after Edie Sedgewick, Andy Warhol's girlfriend. Edie is the most baby she is about 12 weeks old now and Neko is 7 months, they are sweethearts. Here they are playing under the computer monitor

thrifted

some ramekins found at Vinnies, some 1950s some 1970s ranging between 50c and $1. They won't be used in the kitchen, they are ideal food and water bowls for the little ratties. Much better idea than buying the ceramic food bowls sold at the pet shops. They are tiny and range between $5-$8.
I think there is an alternative for just about everything to be found at the op shop.
What are your plans for the weekend? I REALLY hope to see Harry Potter. Pain and stiffness have made me wait for all the good movies to come out on dvd for a while now. But not so anymore, I am going to see Harry at the cinema, and take Bel too of course
I have finished TWO projects this week, (a big deal for me) I'll share them soon. It is a great feeling to be completing things and thinking of fresh new ones to start

creative space

My Creative Space this week has been mainly sitting in my favourite chair trying to finish a stitchery I started weeks and weeks ago then I put it down and left it.....something I am good at doing lately. I've been going through a bag of floss I forgot I had. What a wonderful surprise to find it. I bought this at Coats Patons Woollen Mills about 15 years ago before they closed up. Mum always went there to buy her knitting wool and her mother before her. A shame it no longer exists here.

also some journal fun, just doodling while watching a series of documentaries on Paris on DVD....while dreaming of going there......

artworks

I am always trying to find a style of drawing Frida Kahlo with which I am happy. I have some 98% finished artworks I have been working on. I say 98% because I like to leave them for a week or much longer sometimes, then go back to them to see what they need. I may add some text to these two.

I like to do the drawing/painting on cartridge paper then cut it out and glue it to canvas board with a background I have prepared and then add more layers. This one below is just cut out and sitting against white board. Frida often liked to dress as a man, quite often just purely to shock. I am working on capturing that look.

back tomorrow xx

pressies for me

I was so lucky to win Michelle's incredibly generous 200th post giveaway recently. I was going to win a pair of crocheted wrist warmers and a crocheted necklace...but when my parcel arrived...

Michelle had also made a brooch! I was so excited. Thank you Michelle they all so lovely and have already been admired when I wear them, especially the brooch the other day. Michelle is crocheting up a storm lately, pop over and say hi and have a look. I love her little car and caravan brooches too.
Also to arrive in the mail were these brooches from Sophie's Etsy shop. I can't help myself when it comes to Sophie's brooches. I couldn't resist the Teabag one and the Owl Post is for Isobel. She loves Harry Potter and she can wear this brooch out to the new movie.

break over

I've had my blog break and it feels like ages, not just over a week. I have managed to get some projects finished. I have been playing around with photos of my china too. Photos inspired by a need to clean the china, this of course is a very rare event. I don't have photos of finished projects but I will take some over the weekend. Also I have some goodies that have come in the mail I must photograph.
Thank you so much too, to those of you who wished me well wishes!!! It always helps and I do feel a little "cyber refreshed" is there such a thing?? there is now
So I will share some of the photos I have taken, firstly is my creamer and sugar bowl from James Sadler, Sophie Chintz. This is not vintage but I adore it. These two pieces were given to me from mum a couple of years ago for my birthday.

This baking dish has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid. It is circa 1958 and was a wedding present to mum and has seen many a tuna mornay!!
I have been meaning to mention too about PIF. I asked a while back what were you thoughts and experiences with the Pay It Forward system. I really appreciated all the comments and must tell you that due to those same health and time restraints for which I had a blog break, I pulled out of PIF. Yes I know, I hear the gasps from here. I must be the first Blogger ever to pull out, but I had to do what was best for me in the end.
Some weeks ago I notified the 3 that put their hand up and I haven't heard a word back from them so they are obviously not happy with me.
I clearly have commitment issues.
I would like to say thank you to sweet Jo of Sparkly Green Knickers for being so understanding. I put my hand up on Jo's blog when she wanted 3 people to comment for PIF, and she was fabulous about me pulling out.
happy weekend xx

mugs and things

these mugs are available at Spotlight, isn't it sweet. There are quite a few different knitting ones and it was hard to choose. It is a little chunky and heavy, not as nice as drinking tea out of a porcelain mug, but cute all the same. I have been using it for hot Milo before bed.

I haven't posted in a week as I have started a new medication, an immuno suppressant (chemo meds)and it's pretty yuk. So I have decided to have another week or so break from blogging to try and get some projects done in the little time each day I actually feel OK. I have several artworks in progress and I MUST get finished a swap I have been working on for waaaaay too long.

So I will be back in a week or so, hopefully with lots to show for my break. I also have some goodies from Sophie to show you too but I don't have a photo yet. I am loving the rain and wintery weather at the moment, it's inducive to arty crafty work, back soon xx
