extra curricular

There is another FABULOUS indie mag out. It's Extra Curricular and it's another one from New Zealand...just like that other gem...World Sweet World. New Zealanders are such crafty peeps. This little treasure is up there with WSW and Mixtape. It's a wonderful read and the quality and the feel of it is great too. My copy arrived last week and it was very hard to put down. This is issue one.
here is part of the blurb on the opening page "a magazine about people doing exciting creative projects on the side. Whether they have a 9-5 job, a fledgling business or children to keep them busy, the people we interview here are connected by their passion for keeping the right side of the brain active in their off hours. They do it because they love it."
I feel so passionate about the indie mags that are about. Well worth supporting and SUCH GOOD READS. check it out

bake

With the temperature being a little more tolerable for a couple of days and therefore I haven't been so grumpy and totally opposed to doing everything, we thought a little baking was in order. Not my favourite summer thing to do, so I was happy to get some done.

The Eldest made mini cupcakes......

and I made a huge batch of these biscuits. Instead of freezing two thirds of the dough like I usually do, I thought having the oven on just once was a good idea in case of further killer heat, which of course will come. So I baked the whole lot then froze some of them to be iced later. These have a choc icing on them which is nearly as good as melted chocolate......

and even though this mixture makes up about 70 biscuits in all, they won't last long......but that's OK because they are cheap and easy to make, just what you need in the summer hols. I just need constant cooler weather to keep me happy and to be able to bake in.....

brooch beauty...

I had to share with you a Custom Order I made with Sophie before xmas. I wanted 3 xmas designed brooches for gifts and one for myself. Can you see which one was mine? It sort of sums up how I mostly feel about xmas. I am trying to change my way of thinking. Just the whole hype and expense of xmas has really got me down over the years. Even though my family keep it fairly simple, frugal and modest, it still feels so enforced upon us.
Anyway, it's handmade goodies like these that make a difference I think.

Sophie is having a wonderful giveaway so pop over to her place and enter. Entries close this Saturday

Mad at waiting...

I couldn't wait any longer for SBS to air Series 2 of Mad Men so I rented the DVD. I have had a few days of being unwell added to the heat, it was the perfect excuse to rent it (box sets can add up on a rental). But I needn't of worried of the cost because I watched it very quickly.
It was wonderful having Mad Men on tap.
If you are a fan, and you live in Australia and are sick of waiting for SBS to get it together, I highly recommend you rent or buy the DVD. Money well spent.
Now the only problem is, I am just hangin' out for series 3 to be available!
