2010: a year in review for animals

Please watch this video from Animals Australia and do all you can to help. Be warned some footage is graphic but that's why we need to speak up for these animals.
It is the first time I have seen the sheep live export footage and I was an absolute blithering mess. I cried for some time in absolute horror.   It left me feeling so helpless but we have to get together to stop this barbaric practice and all the other ones.  It's hideous.

Please add this to your blog too.  At least that is one step to doing what we can.

extra curricular

The latest copy of Extra Curricular is fabulous as always AND it even has this cute little activity book attached.   This little zine is such good quality and such a good read I think it's even more special now we won't have Mixtapezine coming to our letter boxes anymore :(

urgent support needed

Please go to Getup Australia and sign the petition and add your support.   Here is the original email from Getup the other day and also the statement they are going to place in The New York Times

"Sarah Palin wants Julian Assange hunted as a terrorist.1 She's among a swelling chorus of American politicians calling for the arrest - and even the death - of the Australian citizen who runs WikiLeaks. It's a shame that real terrorists, the kind we should be focusing our attention on, don't show up at British Police stations with their lawyers, as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange did yesterday.
Here in Australia, Prime Minister Gillard pre-emptively judged Mr. Assange "illegal," even as the Attorney General confirmed that no Australian nor international crime by WikiLeaks has been identified.2
The death penalty? Judgment before trial? This isn't the kind of justice system we have in Australia. If our Government won't stand up for the rights of Australian citizens, let's do it ourselves.
We're printing ads in The Washington Times and The New York Times with the statement our Government should have made, signed by as many Australians as possible. Will you add your name to the signatories, and invite your friends to join too?
http://www.getup.org.au/campaign/Wikileaks

The statement:

Dear President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder:

We, as Australians, condemn calls for violence, including assassination, against Australian citizen and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, or for him to be labeled a terrorist, enemy combatant or be treated outside the ordinary course of justice in any way.

As Thomas Jefferson said, "information is the currency of democracy." Publishing leaked information in collaboration with major news outlets, as Wikileaks and Mr. Assange have done, is not a terrorist act.

Australia and the United States are the strongest of allies. Our soldiers serve side by side and we’ve experienced, and condemned, the consequences of terrorism together. To label Wikileaks a terrorist organisation is an insult to those Australians and Americans who have lost their lives to acts of terrorism and to terrorist forces.

If Wikileaks or their staff have broken international or national laws, let that case be heard in a just and fair court of law. At the moment, no such charges have been brought.

We are writing as Australians to say what our Government should have: all Australian citizens deserve to be free from persecution, threats of violence and detention without charge, especially from our friend and ally, the United States.

We call upon you to stand up for our shared democratic principles of the presumption of innocence and freedom of information. "

Please give your support and go to the Getup site and add your name to the growing list of signatures.  This whole situation is about freedom of speech and democracy for all Australians.

playing around

I have been trying out new mixed media techniques.  Some I have been wanting to try for ages like adding beeswax to a piece.  I love it but it takes a bit of practice to get the look I want. I also tried some texture with kitchen paper towel which is what the seaweed is up the left side and across the bottom, then I added some bling.
Anyway I could of played with and changed this piece forever so I have put it aside and started another piece for real this time.
I have been drawing quite a bit in my journal.  Practicing faces but nothing to blog about.
I also need to make a fabric journal for my online class.  Some peeps are buying them but I think I will make one out of calico. I hope it works.
I still am not getting heaps of creating done. Most of it is in my head at the moment.    It's just not a good time of year to be a having a flare in my illness.  I just hope the one or two handmade things for xmas will be done.  I am sure they will. (at least I think I'm sure....)  It just won't be the handmade xmas I was hoping for but I am over worrying about it already.  I just have to be.
It's going to be even more simple and frugal than usual.
I am going to try and post more often too....

denial...

I haven't dropped off the planet.  I am still here, lurking in the shadows.   I will be back very soon I am sure.  I hope you are all happy and feeling creative.
I am in denial about Xmas totally and just cannot believe it is now December. How ridiculous is that!   How about you?
I just wish the rest of my family would share my Pagan ideals then we could forget the whole shenanigans......
