momentum

So much has been happening over the last 24 hours since the airing of last night's 4 Corners.   Before 4 Corners even finished the Jointheban.com had crashed and then even this afternoon all 3 sites of RSPCA, Animals Australia and Getup crashed as 2000 hits per minute per site were happening.

The amount of discussion and support on Facebook through Animals Australia's page has been heart warming.  I spent hours on there last night, as did many others and we all tried to comfort each other and make some kind of sense of the horrendous scenes on 4 corners.  I hardly even go on Facebook but it was a great place to be.  I couldn't sleep because of the scenes of cruelty and abuse, so twice through the night I got back on Facebook and there were so many other people doing the same because they couldn't sleep either.  Such a feeling of pulling together for a cause.

I have been active in trying to ban live sheep exports to the Middle East.   I have been active in trying to help Bobby Calves and will also never buy mainstream commercial milk again.  But I have never ever seen such scenes of cruelty and felt so completely compelled to help and yet at the same time so utterly helpless.  I have also never cried so much through 4 Corners.  There have been upsetting stories I have seen on it before, but never like this.

So I commented, posted, signed petitions, donated to Animals Australia as many times as I could through the night until I was a total wreck.
When I finally turned off the computer the Getup petition was nearly 10 000 and when I looked late this morning it was nearly 35 000!  How amazing.

It was one crazy, emotional and teary night and so worth it.  We MUST keep the momentum going.
Please do what you can to help

It really was an emotional night and it still makes me teary. I have the image of the last cow trembling imprinted on my brain as it watched what was to become of it. I can't fathom how cruel these men can be to these beautiful creatures. I've done my bit too but wish I could do so much more!

hi,
just wanting to say that i think you're amazing for what you have done! the world needs more people like you! i have forwarded the petition on to almost my entire address book. how sad and unfortunate that i copped a serving from a member of our blogging community for doing so! not to worry, it won't stop me.... i never did like the rude chookyblue anyway! keep up the great work.

Yes, definitely Lyn White for Australian of the Year. Apart from showing our outrage via emails, letters and petitions, if there are other ways to get our opinion across, please share. I'd like to do more, but don't know how. The animals for food industry has a lot to answer for.
