a must see

Here is another movie I think you will all love.    It is a psychological thriller and such a good watch.  It was released last year onto DVD and called the Atonement of 2010.   It is similar in that it is set during WW11, but much more of a thriller.
I love Atonement, I watch it on a regular basis.  It's just this has you holding your breath a few times.
Added bonus....David Tennant is in it and he actually gets to use his own adorable Scottish accent for a change.  But don't get too excited, he is not in it for long.    Bill Nighy as always is brilliant.

L is for sewing

Thank you so much for the get well wishes.  It has made me feel so good emotionally.    Things are still a bit crappy and I am not really up and about yet but thought I would share the project I made just before I became ill.
Also hubby has found me some brilliant op shop treasures which I will share over the next few posts
You are probably wondering what on earth is this that I have made?
Isobel wanted to make herself a cushion from a fave manga series "Death Note"  The protagonist is known as "L".   It is quite a scripted L and I knew it was going to be quite hard for her to make. Lots of angles to sew.
It really was a great thing she needed me to do it because it forced me to snap out of my no sewing mojo and it felt great to make something.
Isobel drew up the L to as close as she could get it to make it possible to sew   Then I thought the best way to do it was to make a solid base of cushion and then sew the light blue on top.  This way the cushion was a little more solid rather than having that whole middle bit of the L cut out.
The best part too is the dark blue polar fleece is from a jacket not worn anymore and the light blue fleece is from the stash, so it didn't cost anything to make.  I had the Poly fill (I hate trying to store that stuff) and I over stuffed it as I know it will flatten quickly.
Bel was extremely happy with the outcome and it's soft and squishy to use.   I was happy as I had to push myself  to sew something again.
I was in the zone for sewing and then my body gave up on me and said "no way will you be sewing anything else for a while yet" but it still felt good to have made something start to finish in one sitting. yay (I had to as Bel wanted to take it to a sleepover that night so no pressure)

I am drawing each day which is helping to keep me sane.  I am trying some new things and media and have tons of videos I have downloaded from my online mixed media courses which are keeping me inspired, so it's no all bad.  I still have quite a few I haven't watched yet so I look forward to them.

I hope your weekend has been a good one

resting

I have not been too good this almost past week, in fact I don't think I have ever felt so unwell.  I have had the very lovely Ambulance Officers visit twice and they told me next time they "would take me in" no treating me at home again.  I have seen the doc a few times and had pathology do a home visit.
I have been feeling quite crappy and grumpy about the whole thing.
About 2 days before this happened I actually found my sewing mojo and made something!!!  I will share that soonish.  I just have to find my photography mojo now after all this is over.
I hope I am up and about very soon.  I certainly hope this is not a sign of things to come.
Tonight really is the first time I have felt like being on the laptop so I am hoping over the next few days to visit you all and feel inspired as I am sure you have all been busy.

I am hoping you all are feeling healthy and enjoying the summer, I will be back soon
many hugs

stone of destiny

I watched this movie a few days ago and absolutely loved it.  It's so comical and yet a true story.  It takes place in 1950 in Scotland.  It is about some uni students who set out to get back  The Stone of Destiny which rightfully belongs to Scotland and sits in the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey.

I have seen a few things in past where The Stone has been in the story, but this is totally about The Stone.
If you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings movies you will be happy to see Billy Boyd is in it and also one of my fave actors Robert Carlyle.

If you want to watch a movie that is funny and a feel good story then check this out. Not only do the students need to break into Westminster Abbey, but carry out The Stone which weighs over 150kgs.  Well worth a look.  I watched it twice in one day!  I really felt it was the light relief I needed .

more water???

The floods in Victoria are getting worse and we now have flooding in many parts of  Tasmania.  More rain forecast and gale force winds in some parts.  Not to mention the horrendous situation in Brazil.  What the hell???
The planet is certainly having her say now........

lists

there is a bit of list making going on around the traps so I thought I would join in too.  If you want to do one pop over to Cathy's at Tinniegirl and join the list of list makers!
It has nothing to do with resolutions.  It's just a list of things I would like to try and achieve, some I will get done and some I won't.  I know that.
It will be interesting to look back in 12 months to see just what I can cross off the list.
here goes

.fill many more art journals
.write more in my art journals even if I write down the crappy stuff then paint over it
.extend my online mixed media course
.bake all the time again, it's been a few months since there were cupcakes around here
.try to stop most of my medications
.find a cure for Lupus
.read as many books as I can
.make lots of art tags and artist trading cards
.take more risks with my artwork
.recycle and repurpose more
.be as thrifty as possible with art supplies
.find my sewing mojo wherever it may have gone
.when I find it...make clothes again, even just simple ones
.learn to crochet once and for all
.watch the 4th season of Mad Men
.learn to knit more than a scarf (been saying that one for a long time)
.watch the 3rd season of Ashes to Ashes
.count the days until autumn
.have another wonderful few days at the Hilton in Melbourne with my Bestie
.meet blog/real life friend Cindy for tea and cake more often
.visit friends in cyberspace even if I have lost my blog mojo

I think that will do for now.  I may add to it later.  How about you?  Are you going to make a list or have you already done one maybe

...

Do you think time is going faster than it used to?  Or is it just because I am an old fart now and I want it to slow down.  I clearly remember being 15 and feeling if I wasn't 18 in an instant I would die.  It seemed to take forever.  Yet 3 years now goes by in flash.

May this be a year for loads of creative time for us all and may the op shop gods be with us at all times.

For those of us who have health that sucks...may this be the year we get well and strong.

I love you guys, thanks for dropping by and keeping me sane and I hope you continue to do so in 2011
