momentum

So much has been happening over the last 24 hours since the airing of last night's 4 Corners.   Before 4 Corners even finished the Jointheban.com had crashed and then even this afternoon all 3 sites of RSPCA, Animals Australia and Getup crashed as 2000 hits per minute per site were happening.

The amount of discussion and support on Facebook through Animals Australia's page has been heart warming.  I spent hours on there last night, as did many others and we all tried to comfort each other and make some kind of sense of the horrendous scenes on 4 corners.  I hardly even go on Facebook but it was a great place to be.  I couldn't sleep because of the scenes of cruelty and abuse, so twice through the night I got back on Facebook and there were so many other people doing the same because they couldn't sleep either.  Such a feeling of pulling together for a cause.

I have been active in trying to ban live sheep exports to the Middle East.   I have been active in trying to help Bobby Calves and will also never buy mainstream commercial milk again.  But I have never ever seen such scenes of cruelty and felt so completely compelled to help and yet at the same time so utterly helpless.  I have also never cried so much through 4 Corners.  There have been upsetting stories I have seen on it before, but never like this.

So I commented, posted, signed petitions, donated to Animals Australia as many times as I could through the night until I was a total wreck.
When I finally turned off the computer the Getup petition was nearly 10 000 and when I looked late this morning it was nearly 35 000!  How amazing.

It was one crazy, emotional and teary night and so worth it.  We MUST keep the momentum going.
Please do what you can to help

please help immediately to save lives and end cruelty

http://www.getup.org.au/campaigns/animals/live-export/ban-live-export  please sign the petition for Getup to join the fight against Live Animal Exports to Indonesia (and the Middle East).   They will be going to Parliament in the morning, with Animals Australia and the RSPCA.
Click the link and add your email address.  We must stop this cruel, inhumane and barbaric practice IMMEDIATELY.  The Australian tax payer is actually contributing to this practice too which may come as a surprise to you
Please help.
There is A HUGE amount of discussion regarding this over on Animals Australia's Facebook page too.

cute little woolly sheep

video at Animals Australia website
Who would of ever thought The Australian Wool Industry that's all warm and fuzzy and righteous has been sooooo incredibly cruel to sheep all these years.  These poor creatures are kept in wooden pens they can't even turn around in all their lives JUST SO the fleece does not get dirty.  You suck big time AWI and we are working hard to have these barbaric practises abolished.

These fleeces are mainly for high end designers, but it sure does make me want to buy acrylic!!!!

zombie girl

I recently won this gorgeous ATC (artist trading card) on Facebook from one of my favourite artists Megan over at Make Art and Live Happy
I love Megan's style.  Bel and I called it "cute creepy" or "cute goth" I don't know if there is an actual genre but that's what we call it when referring to that kind of style.  Not too dark but creepy, zombies. mummies that kind of thing.
I also love Megan's other works especially her Frida Kahlo painting.
Pop over and check out Megan and watch her YouTube videos they are fabulous

girl face

You may remember this face from a few posts ago.....

well I wasn't quite happy with her so I cut out her face and neck and glued her to canvas board.  I then painted in new hair and added some elements including designer paper for her dress and some vintage buttons from my stash for the dress.  I then covered her in beeswax.
I feel much happier with her now and it was just fun playing some more....

dagenham

I found this to be such a wonderful feel good movie.  A true story set in 1968 at the Ford factory in Dagenham.  It is the story of women fighting for equal pay.   It has all the 60s stuff I love.  The clothes, the music etc but at it's heart is a fabulous story of women's struggle for a living wage.
Really worth watching.  It has Bob Hoskins in it too.  I think he is really cool in a short, stocky, balding kind of way!  Great actor.

Not a lot of creativity showing up here lately I know.  Things have been quite stressful.   Mum had surgery and things were going quite well then she got very ill while in the hands of the private hospital where her surgeon operated.
I don't know how it works in your state.  I have found out it's the total opposite in WA, but here the private hospitals are woeful.  They have a skeleton staff, quite often agency nurses.  They do not have ANY doctors on staff.  Your doc that admits you visits you when he wants to.  But if that's where he operates that's were you go.
She was doing really well for nearly a week then started to feel ill but they didn't pay much attention for 24 hours or so.
Anyway mum was rushed to our main public hospital by ambulance to ICU.    The docs there told us she was very ill and things were in the balance. She had Septicaemia
She is stable now and after 6 days put in a ward, but now has had another bad night.  It is literally up and down every day.
Yesterday she was bright and feeling she wanted to go home, then it changed
Needless to say my sister and I are feeling like total wrecks.  It really takes a toll on our health.

I did finish a mixed media piece at 4am this morning because I couldn't sleep, so I will take a photo and put it up so I have something creative to share.

I LOVED Doc Who last night.  It's going to be a superb series.  Yes yes we all miss David Tennant but I think Matt Smith is fab.  He has so much energy and craziness which the Doc should have.  David was getting a bit tired I felt.  The series has started off brilliantly.  So that's a plus.  It's raining today so that's another plus  xx
